Update on Baby Zaidyn...

Posted by Veronica J. Fortune on January 28, 2012 at 3:43pm 0 Comments

Just to let everyone know Baby Zaidyn is now home from Children's Hospital in Boston, and was given one of the two medicines needed to keep him alive while he awaits a lung transplant, as the disease has moved to his lungs now.  The second critica medicine keeps being denied by the insurance company.  We are frantic.  NOW, as it turns out, the other baby in the family born just a couple of months before Zaidyn, and is actually Zaidyn's uncle, is a Down syndrome little sweetheart!!!  I adore…

First Blog Post

Well, here I am on my very first day at Milliande Art Community.  Its taking me a while to find my feet, I have only joined one group so far as not sure were to go as yet.

I am a true art beginner, having only starting trying to teach myself in October 2011, having said that I have spent every day trying, I'm told I am very 'trying'.  I started my first Art Journal in January so do a lot in that, also keep trying to conquor the ACEO.

Today's task was to try…

All my eggs are out of the work basket and at last I can focus on 'my creative' basket and in the middle of a heat wave in perth can't think of a better thing to do that sit out of the sun (strange) and  potter around my journal garden.

ATC Swaps - Any interest?

Posted by Marilyn B. Hughes on January 26, 2012 at 7:33pm 4 Comments

Due to the popularity of the Be My Valentine Swap on the Art Exchanges group, I'm thinking about hosting a St. Patrick's Day ATC Swap.   Any interest?  I know St. Patrick's Day is big here in the US, but am not sure where else.

ALSO......would anyone be interested in me hosting Monthy or Semi-Monthly ATC Swaps.  If there is enough interest, I will do so.  As far as I've been able to tell, there are no regular ATC swaps on Milliande.

My husband has started calling me "ENERGIZER BUNNY" and I'm loving all this energy...it's as if I'm afraid it will give out on me so I MUST keep it going He! He!

Favorite Art Supply

The question the status box asked was what is the latest art supply I fell in love with --

(1) a set of colored pencils! I used to insist there were no better pencils than BEROL's Prismacolors; but after Berol sold them, the quality dropped and every pencil was full of broken "leads" and they are far too expensive to…

I love her layered artworks telling stories within the given framework of a cup ... it is interesting how a cup seems such an archetypically familiar objects across all cultures and lends itself to interpretative painting...

Andrea Benson BIO EXERPT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"...My work with encaustic seems like a fusion of many of my past art explorations; which included ceramics, papermaking, printmaking, photography and mixed media collage. There is a sensuality of material and a sense of partnership with the medium that is integral to my enjoyment of the process and to the success of any piece. It is tactile, malleable and rich and also allows the delight of using a fragrant byproduct of the interaction of bees with flowers. It feels akin to cooking, creating a surface that often exudes an edible quality. Unpredictable and surprising effects happen frequently and there is a constant interplay between transparency, opacity, layering and subtle dimensionality. By combining drawing and paper with wax the potential of this interplay seems infinitely expanded ....
The world seems to me mysterious, lush and lovely, dangerous, disquieting and complex and we all totter and balance and dance under a strange accretion of emotion and sensation, culture, memories and media. In the making of these objects I endeavor to expose a moment of that mystery and create a sense of both recognition and visual satisfaction.
Encaustic Painter Andrea Benson Website
I enjoy the soft fragility of Andrea Bensons artwork, her focus on depicting the body and its particular motional poses without the use of expressive faces or any faces at all . The composition is leaving an open ended pathway for personal inner exploration in response to her work ...
There is a fascinating  peek at her studio work available by the Oregon Public Broadcasting Interview ...
    ~ For me what is sometimes missing in my life is a place to share with women, just women.
    ~ There is a primal inborn need in a lot of women, to connect, to nurture each other and to feel like you are able to come, sit by the fire , make art and talk about the beingness of your day.
    ~ If I call for that need to be met with my inner voice of longing only another feminine voice seems to be able to answer that call
    ~ Here I would like to provide a space for women to be women, in each others company with nothing to prove and nothing to hide .. just being made welcome to explore their individuality to creative art expressions
    ~ Lets sit around the fire and make art and nurture our aching souls
    ~~ Feel free to explore all the little Sub-Groups offered here
    to find one that suits your own style of artistic expression
    ♥ A willingness to explore the creative arts viewed throught the eye of your soul ♥ Deep respect for the beauty and individuality of each woman who chooses to share of herself and her artwork in our Community ♥ A love of life itself ♥ An openess to reclaim your connection with the sacred feminine ♥ A knowing that to create is your first and foremost birthright and that by trusting your intuition you will know instinctively what to create and when you do it will be the perfect time, always ...     Milliande Womens Circle , Art Community for Women
    " Once there was a Woman... who had a dream ... a dream to sit around a fire with creative kin ... and so she found a few twigs of wood, a little log or two , some burning cinder ... and gathered in a little sheltered spot ... to begin ...
    .... soon the smoke of the fire was seen some distance away ... and curious women came to peek ... so the Woman put a few more logs on the fire ...asked them to sit and warm themselves a little ..as they checked out her fire ... the women felt comfortable here and opened themselves to receive ... and as the fire needed tending to keep it alight .. the " Woman" quietly went away to gather a few more pieces of wood ...
    ... as the story goes ..the fire grew and grew ...as more and more women felt themselves strangely warmed by it ... felt a kind of soft feeling deep inside them that held promise of things to come .. that felt akin to a deep knowing ... that simply let them be ...
    .... so they invited their women friends to join too ..to warm themselves, to feel that kinship shared .. and they arrived at the " Woman's fire " ..ready to experience all that was being offered ... some women came alone, some brought friends , some brought a piece of wood or two to share to keep the fire going ... some brought a twig as a way of appreciation for the invitation .. some took a log away to light a fire elsewhere ..
    ...all the while , the Woman's day was filled with gathering many many twigs, making the fire bigger and bigger, making a clearing to create a larger safe place for all the women on the path of arriving at her fire to be met with the same warm glow ..to be welcomed at this little sanctuary
    .. and so they came .. and she was glad ..
    ... the days were filled with joyful laughter..with friendships kindled .. with women sharing ...with creative juices flowing, uncorked, released, shared, enjoyed , women bringing much of themselves to the communal fire ..a fire that in turn deeply nurtured them ...
    ... wood is precious and the Woman was grateful for every piece that arrived at her sanctuary , yet many twigs are needed to keep a fire burning ... it takes a little fallen oak branch to keep it alight for many an hour .. a few gathered twigs of birch will burn swiftly and make way for the next log to arrive that will sustain this creative fire as long as it is needed ...
    ...and so today .. 4 years later... this fire holds itself brightly ..the WOMAN can no longer even see the brightest spark reaching the horizon .. yet she can feel it deeply in her heart
    ... as gathering twigs all by herself was no longer sufficient to keep this large fire burning ...she noticed that many women had settled around her fire
    ...Deep within the Woman lies a knowing ,that to preserve this fire in the way it was meant to BE... for it to remain a sanctuary, to evolve naturally, organically, without the need to judge, rule, organise, chase, plan, no hierarchy, no leaders, no followers ... just women being women ... bare, honest, alive..
    to preserve THIS..to grow THIS... she looks out at the horizon with a widen open heart ... asking for twigs and logs and branches and tree loads to be supplied by the universe ...
    ..and she knew that wood would come .. "
